One of the larger restorations undertaken recently was
the War Memorial in the town centre of Kilrea, Co.
Londonderry. This large, Newry Granite Obelisk was first
cleaned using specialist stone cleaning equipment in
order to remove the build up of dirt and grime caused by
70 years of exposure to pollution and the
elements.
The stone was then treated with a sealant
solution to help repel future dirt and damage. We then
hand painted 10,763 letters back to their original black
finish and chiselled 6 names on the stone that had been
omitted when it was first erected. This whole process took just over a
week to complete.
